Case 1 Departure
- Case 1 departures are flown during daytime VMC conditions and are designed so that departing pilots do not interfere with recovery operations
- Minimums are WX 3000-5 (3,000 ft ceiling and visibility 5nm)
- Once the aircraft clears the catapult and a positive rate of climb is established:
-> Execute clearing turn (to the right for Cats 1/2, to the left for Cats 3/4)
-> Clearing turn: Check away to clear, check back to parallel
-> Fly parallel to BRC at 300 KIAS and 500 feet AGL until 7 DME
-> After 7 DME: climb on course (turn for your desired heading and begin ascent)
Case 2 Departure
- Case 2 departures are flown when daytime VMC conditions are present at the ship, but a controlled climb is required WX 1000-5 (1,000 ft ceiling and visibility 5nm)
- Once the aircraft clears the catapult and a positive rate of climb is established:
-> Execute clearing turn to establish offset of BRC
-> Fly parallel to BRC at 300 KIAS and 500 feet AGL until 7 DME
-> After 7 DME, begin turning for your course
-> Once you pass the 10 DME arc, the 500 feet altitude restriction is lifted
-> Maintain 300 KIAS until you exit IMC (“VMC on top”)
Case 3 Departure
- Case 3 departures are flown at night or when weather conditions are IMC
- Minimum launch interval of 30 seconds between aircraft
- Following launch:
-> Unrestricted climb straight ahead at 300 kts
->Adjust pitch to maintain speed
-> By 5 DME you must be above 1500 AGL
-> At 7 DME, turn for course
